Report Cards Explained!
CMS is pleased to announce the release of a revised K-2 report card reflecting the new North Carolina Essential Standards and the Common Core State Standards. The new report card reflects the work of school based and central office based staff as well as the comments and reflections of our K-2 teachers and administrators. Through a joint effort of C&I Advisory Team and the Student Applications Department. The report card rubric is designed to reflect a child’s progress on the standards which represent grade level proficiency at the end of the year and is much more comprehensive in its’ scope than previous versions
Standards
Below is a link to the second grade report card. Please click on the link to view the standards. The highlighted skill sets are the only items used in determining your child's grade. Some areas will contain an N/I......meaning that that standard was not addressed this quarter, but will be addressed before the end of the school year.

Grading
Grades on progress reports include Developing (D), Progressing (P), Mastering (M), and Exemplary Mastery (E). Many standards, especially in reading and writing, are covered throughout the school year, therefore cannot be mastered earlier in the year. If you have any questions or comments about a grade, please your teacher or write them a note.
